Core Features
Sources
Understand where AI Overviews pull their information from and how your content contributes.
Overview
Sources represent the domains and URLs that AI Overviews cite when generating answers. By analyzing sources, you can understand which domains Google's AI trusts most for a given topic, how your own content is being used, and where opportunities exist to earn more citations.
Source Classification
Citatra classifies sources into categories to help you understand the nature of each citation:
- Direct Citations — your domain is explicitly cited as a source in the AI Overview.
- Indirect References — your content is referenced or paraphrased without a direct link.
- Third-Party Mentions — other domains are cited, giving you insight into who else Google's AI considers authoritative for your tracked prompts.
Source Widgets
The sources page includes several widgets that summarize citation data at a glance:
- Top Cited Domains — a ranked list of the most frequently cited domains across all your tracked prompts.
- Citation Frequency Chart — a visual breakdown of how often each source appears over time.
- Source Type Distribution — a chart showing the proportion of direct citations, indirect references, and third-party mentions.
Domain Analysis
Click on any domain in the source list to drill into its details. The domain analysis view shows which specific prompts cite that domain, how frequently it appears, and its average position across citations. This is especially useful for understanding why a particular competitor consistently outranks you on certain topics.
Your Citations
The Your Citations section focuses specifically on where your domain gets cited. It lists the exact URLs that AI Overviews reference, the prompts that triggered those citations, and the surrounding context. Use this to identify your strongest content and understand what makes it citation-worthy.
