Technical Analysis
GEO Audit
Evaluate your content against Generative Engine Optimization best practices.
Overview
GEO — Generative Engine Optimization — is the emerging practice of optimizing content specifically for AI-generated search results. Unlike traditional SEO, which focuses on ranking in organic listings, GEO targets the factors that influence whether your content gets cited in AI Overviews and other generative search experiences. The GEO Audit evaluates your pages against these criteria.
GEO Criteria
The audit scores your content across five key dimensions:
- Answer-readiness — how directly and clearly your content answers common questions in your domain
- Citation-worthiness — whether your content includes specific data, statistics, and authoritative claims that AI models prefer to cite
- Entity clarity — how well your content defines and contextualizes the people, organizations, products, and concepts it discusses
- Factual density — the ratio of verifiable facts and data points to general or opinion-based statements
- Source signals — the presence of references, citations, author credentials, and trust indicators that establish authority
Scoring
Each page receives a score from 0 to 100, broken down by individual criterion. Use the following benchmarks to interpret your results:
- 80–100 — Excellent. Your content is well-optimized for AI citation.
- 60–79 — Good. Solid foundation with room for targeted improvements.
- Below 60 — Needs work. Significant gaps exist that likely reduce your AI Overview visibility.
The overall score is a weighted average of all five criteria, with answer-readiness and citation-worthiness carrying the most weight.
Recommendations
The GEO Audit generates specific, actionable recommendations for each page based on its scores. These recommendations identify exactly what to improve and how — whether that means adding statistics, restructuring answers, or clarifying entity references.
All GEO Audit recommendations feed into the Recommendations page, where you can view and manage suggested improvements across all your tracked pages in one place.
GEO vs Traditional SEO
Traditional SEO and GEO share common ground but differ in emphasis:
| Aspect | Traditional SEO | GEO | |---|---|---| | Primary goal | Rank in organic search listings | Get cited in AI-generated answers | | Content focus | Keyword optimization and relevance | Answer quality and factual density | | Authority signals | Backlinks and domain authority | Source credibility and citation-worthiness | | Structure | Headings and internal linking | Content structure optimized for AI parsing | | Measurement | Rankings and click-through rates | Citation frequency and AI visibility |
Both disciplines are complementary. Strong traditional SEO provides a foundation that GEO builds upon — well-structured, authoritative content performs well in both contexts.
